Tefal OptiGrill Elite GC750D40

Thickness sensing and twelve food programmes, with manual control when timings need adjusting.

Editorial review Reviewed 23 October 2026 How we assess products

The Tefal OptiGrill Elite GC750D40 earns its premium through useful guidance rather than extra cooking formats. It senses food thickness, offers twelve food programmes, and adds a searing boost for stronger browning. Clear controls, a floating hinge and a steeply angled plate make it a capable contact grill for meat and vegetables. A refill option helps when repeating the same food in batches. Automatic does not mean infallible. Thick chicken can finish before the predicted time, while vegetables may need extra manual cooking. Preheating varies by programme, and switching programmes is less convenient than a simple cancel-and-restart control. The plates and drip tray remove for cleaning; the hot casing, bulky body and inability to open flat are the main practical limits. Philips HD6307/70 adds a probe and opens flat; the cheaper Cuisinart GR47BU suits buyers happy to control cooking themselves.
