Smeg & Lavazza A Modo Mio 18000450 is the black retro capsule machine with a large metal lever. Rich, balanced espresso and two programmable buttons make it useful as well as decorative. A 0.9L tank, six-capsule bin and adjustable/removable cup support suit short coffees. Opening the lever ejects the used capsule, sometimes with drips, so empty and rinse the bin and tray. Glossy plastic marks easily. A descaling reminder helps with scheduled care. There is no milk frother, and A Modo Mio capsules are required. Lavazza Jolie Evo is the smaller, simpler alternative with manual stopping; Lavazza A Modo Mio Deséa spends more of its complexity on milk preparation. Buy the Smeg & Lavazza A Modo Mio for its design and repeatable pours, rather than expecting a proportional improvement in coffee quality.
