George Foreman's Immersa 28310 solves the usual fixed-plate cleaning problem in a different way. Once switched off, unplugged and cool, its control panel detaches so the washable grill assembly can go in the sink or dishwasher. The plates do not lift out like a conventional removable-plate grill. Keep the electrical controller dry and follow the reassembly instructions before using it again. The medium model has space for four burger-sized portions and a floating hinge for thicker food. It is straightforward to operate and cooks burgers and chicken well, but one heat setting and no timer leave you in charge of progress. The outer casing also gets warm: use the handle. Cuisinart GR47BU offers variable heat and flat plates at a similar price; Immersa is the easier-washing choice.
