Baratza Encore ESP: A Practical First Espresso Grinder
230V dual-range burr grinder
Editorial review Reviewed 23 October 2026 How we assess products
The Baratza Encore ESP is a useful first grinder for an espresso machine with a conventional, unpressurised basket, where the coffee grounds control the water flow. Settings 1–20 make smaller espresso adjustments, while 21–40 cover other brewing. Its 40mm M2 steel conical burrs grind into a supplied 54mm cup with a 58mm adapter. Press the pulse button or use the on/off switch; stopping and weighing the dose are your jobs. An optional single-dose hopper is not essential. Replacement-parts support is a practical advantage, but the plastic body, occasional clumps and gaps between steps limit refinement. Coarser grounds are less uniform than a dedicated filter grinder’s. It is an approachable espresso tool for buyers who value adjustment and serviceability above automatic dosing.
