Choose how you cook

2

Add the number of people eating

Enter the number of people whose food you normally want ready in the same cooking round. This is not everyone in the household unless they usually eat the air-fried food together.

As a rough guide, two younger children or two light eaters can count as one adult. For large appetites, guests or leftovers, consider the next size band up.

3

Check the worktop fit

Choose the closest description of the space you have. Before buying, check the air fryer's width and depth, room for the drawers to open and space below wall cupboards.

Calculator result

A compact single-basket air fryer should fit the job.

Based on cooking for 2 people at once and usually making everyday main meals.

Use this as a starting point when comparing models. Basket shape, drawer depth, usable cooking area and how often you shake the food can all affect which size feels right.

How to use the result

Use the litre range as a starting point, not a guarantee. Basket shape, drawer depth and the cooking area at the bottom can matter as much as the litre number. A deep narrow drawer and a wide shallow drawer can hold food differently, even when both list the same capacity.

For a fuller explanation of the capacity bands, read what size air fryer you need. If drawer layout is the harder decision, compare single-basket and dual-zone air fryers.

How the estimate is worked out

There is no exact number of litres that suits every person, so the calculator uses broad size ranges. One or two people making snacks can start with a compact basket; three people cooking everyday main meals usually need a larger single basket; mixed meals and food for four or more people often need dual drawers and more cooking space. Choosing a smaller worktop does not mean you need less room for food, but it can warn you when a suitable air fryer may be hard to place.

Who should you count?

Count the people whose air-fried food you want ready in the same cooking round, rather than everybody who happens to live in the household. One adult with a normal appetite counts as one person. As a rough guide, two younger children or two light eaters can count as one adult. For large appetites, guests or planned leftovers, use the result as a minimum and consider the next size band up.

Single basket, dual drawer or flexible drawer?

A single basket is usually simpler to clean and easier to store. A large single basket can suit bigger pieces of food, while a dual-drawer or flexible-drawer model is better when you want chips in one drawer and protein or vegetables in the other. That is why mixed meals move the recommendation towards dual or flexible drawers earlier than snack use.

When to size up

Choose a larger size if you cook mixed meals, want fewer batches or often feed more than the usual number of people. Also check how much counter space the air fryer takes up. Larger dual-drawer models need plenty of width and enough space in front for the drawers to open fully.

When compact still makes sense

A smaller air fryer can be the better everyday appliance for one or two people, tight counters, snacks and side dishes. Oversizing can make the machine harder to store and clean.
